2 Days To Go

Only 2 more days of school until summer vacation. The kids are thrilled, and so am I, on the one hand. On the other, I’m counting the minutes I have left by myself until I’m on duty full time.

(And for the record, that’s about 540, if you’re keeping track.)

How best to use them? Good question. Over the last 2 weeks I have squeezed in a mani-pedi and a movie by myself. Pretty luxurious, in the mom realm. I can think of 20 things to do, some I have to and some I want to, but there’s really not enough time to do them all.

I have been feeling stressed out and I’m really looking forward to the freedom of summer: no schedule, no homework, and best of all, no PTA. But the downside is: no time for me, either.

Such is the life of a mom, but that doesn’t really make it feel better. Well, I guess it does a little bit.

In 2 days we start our 2nd summer of no camps, and I know that again, it’s the right decision. My kids spend 6 hours a day following rules, being forced to adapt to a structure not of their choosing and pounding the academics. I don’t want to do that to them all year long. We all need a break from it. So we’ll be at the beach and the city pool, or home playing with legos and nerf guns.

Oh, and I’ll be trying to fit in blogging every now and then.

Ooooh, but then you will read Outliers and you might change your mind on the school thing….
