Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett, R. I. P.

Two pop culture Icons, dead in the same day. jackson 5 albumcharlies_angels_1976Both people had a profound influence on my childhood.

I know all the words to so many Jackson 5 songs I can’t even count them all.

And I watched Charlie’s Angels every chance I got. It wasn’t a question of ever missing it. And yes, I wanted to have hair like hers! (I said it was a Profound influence.)

Plus, in the coincidence category, I worked with both Kate Jackson and Jacklyn Smith in my Script Supervising days on separate movies, of course.

And then, when my youngest child was born, I lay in my hospital bed and nursed my newborn, and since there was no sleeping for my weary bones, I stayed up and watched the Martin Bashir interview of Michael Jackson, which sealed in my mind, his status as a truly strange person.

Farrah was 62, which is hard to believe, really, and she battled cancer, a battle I’ve watched loved ones fight in the past.

Michael was only 50, which is dangerously close to my own age, so his death holds even more significance to me. Once again, the frailty of life itself is made clear. Enjoy the moment; it is fleeting.
