Wikets, you’ll recall, is a free app for iPhone and iPad, that lets you share your recommendations (or “rec’s”) and seek out rec’s from other people. And by using the app you rack up points that, when you reach the magic number 2500, can be redeemed for an Amazon gift card. Not too shabby.

Like any new social sharing system, you have to make a new tribe of people when you sign up. You’ll follow me, probably, if you’re reading this, and see what I’ve rec’d. But then you’ll get friends of yours to join as well, and soon you’ll have a group of people who can all share rec’s and trust that they’re not being lied to by a restaurant’s competitor. Or owner… ahem.

So here’s why I think it’s great: I love sushi, but I’m on a budget. And cheap sushi is a frightening prospect: could be they’re not using the best quality seafood, if you know what I mean. What’s a gal to do?

Because, call me shallow if you like, but there was no way I’d have ever eaten here, based solely on the way it looks from the outside, if it were not for her rec.
